Leesburg Students Study ‘Sheep To Scarves’
LEESBURG — Miss Roberts has many skills that enable her to inspire and equip the English Language Learners at Leesburg Elementary. Recently, she shared her unique talent of spinning wool with the entire fifth grade to help them better understand colonist life.
Students learned all of the work required for colonists to create clothing, beginning with catching your sheep and finishing with weaving something warm to wear. Along with each step, students were able to see, smell and touch many of the tool used in the process of making and using yarn. The blazers said they would remember how difficult and time consuming each step was, as well as the smell of the wet wool.
