NEW PARIS — Ernest Snider Jr., Walkerton, was pronounced deceased at the scene of a two-vehicle accident on US 6, west of CR 25, south of New Paris. The accident was at 10:42 a.m. today, Friday, Dec. 9.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Deputies report David Hatfield, 52, Kokomo, driver of a 2016 Freightliner semitractor/trailer, was westbound on US 6, west of CR 25. Police report Snider, who was eastbound, drove his 2013 Ford F150 left of center and directly into the path of the semitractor/trailer. The two vehicles collided head on.

Hatfield complained of pain to the knees and was treated at the scene.

The accident is under further investigation by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department crash team, the Indiana State Police and the Elkhart County Coroner’s Office.

New Paris Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene.
