McKenzie Named To Silver Anniversary Team
NEW CASTLE – Eighteen men have been named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2017 Silver Anniversary Team, based on outstanding accomplishments as a senior basketball player 25 years ago. Among the chosen was Warsaw Community High School graduate Jason McKenzie.
The team includes 13 members of the 1992 Indiana All-Star squad. Five other all-state players are included to recognize the top of Indianas high school class of 1992.
1992 Indiana All-Stars include Mr. Basketball Charles Macon of Michigan City Elston as well as Jermaine Ball, Craig Brunes, Kurt Comer, Matt Delinger, Brian Gilpin, Richie Hammel, Steve Hart, Mark Lueking, Walter McCarty, Jason McKenzie, Scott Shepherd and Billy Wright from 1992 state champion Richmond.
The remaining five, named to various all-state teams are: Mike Brooks, Alan Bush, Joe Estes, Chris Miskel and Brandt Schuckman.
McKenzie was a 1992 Indiana All-Star. He averaged 18.9 points and 6.6 rebounds as junior and 18.0 points and 5.2 rebounds as a senior for teams that were 47-4 under Al Rhodes and reached 1992 state finals.
McKenzie accumulated 1,022 career points, was named 1992 AP Third Team All-State, Coaches Third Team All-State; Bloomington Herald Times and Hoosier Basketball Magazine First Team All-State; 1991 Underclass First Team All-State; Two-time NLC All-Conference; Two-time All-Sectional and All-Regional; 1992 All-Semi-state and All-State Finals teams.
He was also named an East-West All-Star and to the South Bend Tribune Sunburst All-Star Classic. McKenzie played four years at Butler University, averaging 10 points as a senior.
Currently, he is employed in medical sales for Medtronic.
All Mens Silver Anniversary Team members will be honored at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fames Annual Mens Banquet on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
A midday reception, free and open to the public, will be held at the Hall of Fame museum in New Castle. The evening banquet will take place at the Primo Banquet Hall, which is located on the south side of Indianapolis.
