Wawasee Basketball: Warriors Cruise By Bruins
SYRACUSE — The Wawasee girls basketball team stopped a big winning streak Tuesday night and started one of its own. The Lady Warriors hosted Bethany Christian and downed the Bruins, winners of seven straight, 49-34.
Bethany started the game on a 5-0 run, putting Wawasee against the wall from the start, but the Warriors rebounded to lead 10-9 after the first and were up 19-13 at the break.
The win was the second in a row for Wawasee, which improves to 5-7 on the season. Hannah Haines led the way for the home team with 14 points. Aubrey Schmletz added another 11 points for Wawasee while Aubrey Kuhn scored nine. Seven Warriors scored in total.
Bethany’s Tessa Clark led all scorers with 17 points. Anya Kauffman added another seven for the Bruins.
Wawasee will travel to Knightstown this Saturday to play at the historic Hoosier Gym against Warsaw. Tip in set for 5:30 p.m. Bethany (9-4) will host its annual tournament starting at 10 a.m.
Wawasee’s JV improved to 9-1 on the year behind a 48-12 win over the Bethany. Hannah Lancaster, Sara Pritchard and Caitlin Wortinger each scored eight points for the Warriors. Bethany was led by Grace Rheinheimer’s five points.
