Triton Basketball: Three Times A Zebra
BOURBON – Triton’s girls basketball team finally ran out of gas, losing 42-39 in triple overtime to Rochester Wednesday night at the Trojan Trench.
Triton and Rochester matched one another move for move, each scoring five points in the first overtime then three in the second overtime period. While Rochester managed to get four points to fall in the third overtime, Triton could not get anything to fall, going scoreless in the final four minutes.
Triton kept itself alive in the game using the three-ball, with Courtney Jennings hitting three from deep and Nicole Sechrist stepping outside to hit a pair. Jennings and Sechrist each totaled 12 points and the two combined for 10 rebounds. Rochester held Triton’s leading scorer, Hannah Wanemacher, to just four points.
The Trojan defense kept the home side moving, forcing 21 Rochester turnovers and recording 19 steals. Rochester, however, did the work on the glass, outrebounding Triton 30-19, giving itself a 12-6 edge in second chance points with nine offensive boards.
Kennedy Musselman paced Rochester with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Maci Brown added 10 points.
Triton pounded Rochester in the JV game 40-16. Abigail Powell led the home team with 16 points.
Triton (3-10) will host Pioneer Saturday while Rochester (6-6) hosts North Miami Friday night.
