Triton Basketball: Pitney Heroics Save Trojans [VIDEO]
BOURBON – Zac Pitney had ice in his veins Friday night, stepping back and drilling a three to lift Triton to a 47-45 win over Winamac in Hoosier North Athletic Conference play.
Trailing 45-43, Pitney took the ball and banked in a three from the right wing as time dwindled under five seconds remaining. Pitney would hit one of two free throw attempts in the final second to seal the conference win.
The senior guard finished with a season-high 19 points, hitting four three and also adding four steals.
Grant Johnson added 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks for the Trojans.
Luke Pugh paced Winamac (4-2, 2-1 HNAC) with 12 points and 10 rebounds, with Calvin Larkin and Caleb Smith each finishing with 10 points.
Winamac held a 29-15 lead at the half, only for Triton to slice the Warriors’ lead to eight after three, then outscoring Winamac 19-9 in the fourth quarter. Triton used a 16-3 run in the second half to get back into the game.
In the JV contest, Winamac held on for a 45-38 win. Thorn Loehmer led Winamac with 13 points and Trenton Kreft led Triton with eight points.
Triton (4-3, 2-0 HNAC) will host Warsaw Wednesday night while Winamac will wait on the weather report about a possible game at McCutcheon Saturday night.
