NorthWood Basketball: Ladies Finish 6th In Tourney
MIDDLEBURY – The NorthWood girls basketball team wrapped up play Friday in the Bankers Classic with a sixth-place finish.
The Panthers lost a 62-42 final to Andrean in their place game to finish action in the eight-team holiday tournament hosted by Northridge.
Andrean outscored NorthWood 16-8 in the pivotal third quarter to pull away to the win. Andrean led 29-21 at halftime of the contest.
Savannah Feenstra and Kenzie Bergman each scored 12 points to lead NorthWood, which falls to 12-5.
Krystina Barksdale led a balanced offensive attack for Andrean with 15 points.
NorthWood finished pool play earlier Friday with a 58-45 loss to South Bend Adams to finish 1-2 in pool play action. The Eagles led just 40-38 after three quarters before outscoring the Panthers 18-7 in the final frame.
Feenstra led the offense for NorthWood with 11 points versus Adams. Taitlyn Trenshaw and Nicole Flickinger each netted 10 points for the Panthers.
Samantha Janokowski led Adams with 16 points.
NorthWood played both games on Friday without Riley Hershberger, who was sidelined due to an injury.
NorthWood plays at Wawasee next Saturday night in a Northern Lakes Conference contest.
Host Northridge used defense and a big performance by junior Brooke McKinley to top Lake Central in the championship game.
McKinley, a Grand Valley State recruit who earned MVP honors for the two-day tourney, canned 17 points as the Raiders beat Lake Central 48-34 to win the title for the first time in its six year history. Northridge, which is ranked No. 10 in Class 4-A, outscored Lake Central 9-2 in the third quarter to take control.
Northridge allowed just two field goals in the second half in the championship game win.
The Raiders, who are now 18-1, beat East Noble 48-27 earlier Friday to finish 3-0 in pool play. The 18 wins are the most by any girls team in the state.
Northridge hosts Warsaw next Saturday night in a huge Northern Lakes Conference game. The Tigers are 14-1 on the season.
