Triton Basketball: Trojans Double Up West Central
BOURBON – Triton had both its boys and girls varsity basketball teams beat West Central Saturday at the Trojan Trench.
The Lady Trojans opened the day with a 50-32 win. Hannah Wanemacher was red hot from beyond the arc, hitting five threes to lead with 24 points. Wanemacher added six rebounds and two steals to her afternoon. Whytnie Miller, who was held scoreless in her last game against Oregon-Davis, would connect on 7-11 shots for 15 points, and added four assists and two steals.
Courtney Jennings added six points and five rebounds while Charlotte Morris hauled in eight boards.
West Central’s Amanda Saltsman scored 11 points to lead her club.
In the 55-37 Triton win in the boys game, Grant Johnson held the sword for Triton, recording 22 points and 10 boards. One night after Zac Pitney had a career night against John Glenn, the senior guard poured in 14 points. Nate Flenar added 11 points in the win.
Matt Poortenga shot early and often for West Central, scoring 18 points on 7-21 shooting. Poortenga would add 13 rebounds and teammate Janssen Flotow added 11 points.
In the boys JV game, West Central would get the win in a 33-31 final. Bryant Kackos would top the visiting Trojans with 18 points while Jared Bules led the home Trojans with nine points. Tye Orsund and Delano Shumpert each had eight points for Triton.
Triton’s girls move to 4-12 overall and 3-1 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference and will meet Winamac Tuesday evening. Triton’s boys are 6-4 overall and 3-0 in the HNAC, awaiting Culver’s visit Friday night.
