Cubs Baseball: Fly The ‘W’ And See A Trophy
SOUTH BEND – The Chicago Cubs are rightfully finding all sorts of different ways to celebrate its first World Series championship in 108 years. Among them are a plethora of printed items and the traveling of the World Series trophy, which will make a pair of stops in South Bend this year.”
The VIP Event on January 21 is by invitation only. Full-season seat holders will be contacted directly with more details on the private event. Fans interested in purchasing full-season seat plans can contact the South Bend Cubs Main Office at (574) 235-9988.
“We’re excited to share our cherished trophy with fans this offseason as we celebrate such a historic World Series championship,” said Chicago Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts via Cubs.com. “This year’s world championship team is unparalleled, and so are our fans. We can’t wait for them to experience the joy of seeing this piece of history in person.”
“It’s more than a hunk of metal… although it is a very good looking hunk of metal,” said South Bend Cub Owner and limited partner of the Chicago Cubs Andrew Berlin. “The trophy is a symbol of pride, determination, overcoming obstacles and achievement. Even more so, the trophy represents not just a Championship but the positive values and attributes we see in ourselves.”
“It’s an honor and a privilege to host the World Series Trophy to the Michiana region,” said South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart. “There are many Cubs fans in our area who have waited a very long time for this moment and we are incredibly proud to share it with them. While the event on January 21st will be limited to full-season seat holders, we have worked hard with the Cubs to bring it back to Four Winds Field later in the year. It is a privilege to be a part of the Chicago Cubs family and we appreciate them allowing us to be a part of the trophy tour.”
The World Series Trophy will then be on display for the general public on April 20. Fans will be allowed to take pictures and share on social media using the hashtag #CubsTrophyTour. More details on specific viewing times will be released in the spring.
One of the many books to commemorate the championship season by the Chicago Cubs is “Fly The ‘W'”, which features stories and photos from the Daily Herald newspaper in Chicago. The foreward is done by Cubs television broadcaster Len Kasper, who notates some of the key moments and feelings from a long and memorable Cubs run in 2016.
Finding important moments like Dexter Fowler’s resigning with the Cubs before the season, to Ben Zobrist’s MVP World Series to hashtags and AC0000000.
The photography in the book is outstanding, with works from skilled shutterbugs Brian Hill, John Starks, Steve Lundy and others, the pictures take you nearly as far inside the season as the clever writings of Bruce Miles, Barry Rozner and Mike Imrem.
The writers bring the readers inside the lockerrooms, the dugouts and the lives beyond the chalked lines. Rozner’s piece on David Ross and how the Cubs fans turned him into an icon goes beyond the obvious. Miles’ numerous takes on the World Series run brings the words right off the page and back into the view of the hungry Cubs fans, needing to take another bite of the green apples God seemingly planted in Cleveland last November.
The book, published by Triumph Books, is 160 pages of what every Cubs fan has dreamed of consuming. From spring training’s high expectations, to Joe Maddon’s unique and mad scientist formulas for success, to the victory celebration that became the largest human gathering in the history of the Western Hemisphere.
The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. It is a big deal.
