Medaryville Man Arrested In Connection With Extensive Theft Ring
KOSCIUSKO — A Medaryville man has been arrested for his involvement in a recent theft spree.
James W. Matthews, 46, 4068 North CR 400W, Medaryville, is being charged with auto theft, a level 6 felony.
On Dec. 27, 2016 an officer with the North Webster Police Department responded to a report of a theft of a recreational vehicle in Kosciusko County.
Officers received information that Matthews, along with two other males, may have been involved in the theft of a Polaris Ranger UTV.
Officers spoke with Michael Nicholas Watson, 27, Leesburg, who advised that Frank Bailey III, 41, North Webster, James Matthews and he had stolen a Polaris Ranger UTV from a residence.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Matthews, Watson and Bailey had committed crimes in Noble, Starke, Pulaski and Steuben counties. Some of the stolen items have been recovered, including two UTV’s, eight ATV’s, six trailers, go-carts, golf carts, motocross motorcycles, mini-bikes and snowmobiles.
On Friday, officers from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department arrested an additional suspect, Tyson DeWayne Matthews, 27, Winamac, on preliminary charges of felony forgery and felony theft in connection with this crime spree.
Matthews was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 7 with $5,250 surety and cash bond.
