NorthWood Basketball: Panthers Keep Marching On
NAPPANEE – NorthWood made it 10 in a row Tuesday night, thumping New Prairie 61-45 in boys buckets at The Pit.
The 10 straight wins sets a school record for wins to start a season, and wasn’t really in much doubt after the Panthers took a five point lead after the first quarter and spread it to 12 at the half. NorthWood held the Cougars to just four points in the second quarter, the Cougars only shooting 27 percent (6-22) from the floor in the first half.
Top-ranked NorthWood in Class 3-A shot 50 percent (10-20) from the floor in the first half and were 22-40 overall (55 percent) as well as 12-15 from the foul line.
It was a collaborative effort for the Panthers, which had nine players in the scoring column. Caleb Lung led the charge with 16 points, Luke Zurcher with 12 points and Vinny Miranda with 10 points. The three combined for 19 of the team’s 28 rebounds.
Brad Delio and Trey Bilinski each finished with seven points for the Panthers.
Kody Webb paced the Cougars (4-6) with seven points and a pair of rebounds.
NorthWood carried out the mission in the JV game, 58-40, over New Prairie. Nick Bean led the Panthers with 12 points, Michael Klemczak also with 12 for the Cougars.
The freshman squad for NorthWood beat John Glenn 49-28. Trent Edwards had a monster night, recording 26 points, four rebounds and three assists. Brock Flickinger finished with eight points and six rebounds while Garrett Miller chipping in six points.
NorthWood will jump back into Northern Lakes Conference play Friday with a matchup at Northridge. New Prairie will visit Valparaiso Saturday night.
