Elkhart Man Breaks Into Home In Kosciusko County And Is Found Asleep On Couch
WARSAW — Two Elkhart man were arrested after one broke into a home in Kosciusko County and was found sleeping on a couch while the other slept in a car in the driveway.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Jan. 10, officers were informed that a male was passed out on a homeowner’s porch and another male was passed out in a vehicle in her driveway.
When an officer arrived at the residence, he saw a black Chevrolet Impala in the driveway with a male still in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The woman at the residence explained to officers that when she had come home she had seen a male on the porch and a man asleep in the vehicle in her driveway.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the woman went to a phone booth to call police to inform them about the two men at the home. When the woman returned from making the phone call, the male was no longer on her porch. She requested officers to check the residence to see if the male was inside.
The officer found a male, later identified as Andrew Thomas, inside the home sleeping on the couch.
The officer removed Thomas from the couch and handcuffed him. The officer searched Thomas and found a plastic bag containing marijuana and a .38 caliber revolver.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, an officer found a male in the vehicle in the driveway. The male was later identified as Steven Caradea. The officer found a Smith & Weston 9mm semi-automatic, a BB gun, .38 special ammunition, a marijuana cigarette and a Taurus magazine pouch in the vehicle with Caradea.
Officers spoke with a neighbor who advised she had spoken with the two males. They had stated they had run out of gas and had called a friend and were waiting for them to come with gasoline.
The officer also found a .38 caliber Taurus revolver on Thomas. The gun had been reported stolen from Cass County, Mich., in Nov. 17, 2016. The 9mm handgun found in the vehicle had been reported to the Elkhart Police Department as stolen.
Andrew J. Thomas, 27, 2250 Cassopolis St., Elkhart, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 10, on a bond of $5,250 surety and cash.
Steven Paul Caradea, 28, 730 W. Lexington Avenue, Elkhart, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 10, on a bond $5,250 surety and cash.
