NORTH WEBSTER — Are you struggling to keep your New Year’s resolution to lose weight? Learn how to use your smartphone to take off those unwanted pounds at North Webster Community Public Library. At 4:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27, Stuart Smith will share how he used his smartphone as a weight loss tool and lost 75 pounds in nine months. He will explain some of the weight loss apps available, how to use them, how to sync wearable fitness trackers with your smartphone and how personal technology can help you slim down. Come and get the skinny on smartphones and weight loss at this free and informative program.
There is still time to sign up for next week’s Coffee and Canvas 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28. Artist Karla Hayden will show how to paint an adorable snowman scene. The fee will include canvas, painting supplies and refreshments. Advance registration and pre-payment is due by Jan. 26 to reserve your spot. It makes a fun “girls’ morning out”, so stop by the Circulation Desk to sign up.
Revolving Recipe Round-Up makes a fun evening out when this group of foodies get together 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 24, to share and sample homemade soups and trade recipes. If you have a favorite soup, prepare it and bring it to Revolving Recipe Round-Up along with the recipe. The library provides the table service and coffee.
Voyager Book Club will be on the edge of their seats with suspense when they meet 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 23, to discuss suspense books. A different kind of book club, participants in this group read any book of their choosing within a specific genre each month. January’s genre is suspense books while next month’s selection will be romance books. By sharing what each has read, participants explore a variety of titles and authors. Stop by the library for a list of upcoming genres, check out a book and join the discussion each month.
Join Family Movie Time in the Youth Services Department 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26. Showing is a 2016 Disney re-make of a tale about an orphaned boy named Pete who befriends a dragon. The movie is rated PG and runs 102 minutes, complete with free popcorn.
If you don’t have internet service at home, you can check out a Sprint Mobile Hotspot device from North Webster Community Public Library. Providing unlimited data, these devices let you connect with the internet on your home computer or tablet with no software to install. Mobile Hotspots can be checked out for one week with no renewals. Patrons must be at least 18 years old and hold a North Webster Library card. Stop by the Circulation Desk for details.
