Arnold C. Keuneke
Arnold C. Keuneke, 97, North Manchester, passed away at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017 at Timbercrest Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 4, 1920 in Adams County, he was the son of Albert G. Keuneke and Martha (Kiess) Keuneke.
Arnold was born near Preble and lived in Fort Wayne as a young man before moving to Washington Township of Whitley County in 1954. He attended schools in Adams County, Fort Wayne and also in Ohio. Arnold was an Electronics Technical School graduate.On September 25, 1941, he married Louise E. Ensley of Fort Wayne. He served in the U.S. Army from February 1942 through September 1945. During this time in WWII, Arnold served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign. He spent the rest of his career primarily as a livestock and grain farmer. He also worked as an electrician at Wayne Knitting Mills and Dana Corp. for 28 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church
Survivors include his children, Ruth (David) Taisch, of Tavares, Fla.; Carl (Sherry) Keuneke, of South Whitley; Martha (Jim) Nutt, of North Manchester; Patricia (John) Snyder, of Antwerp, Ohio; and Jane (Keith) Klemm, of Columbia City; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Eva Keuneke of Waterloo and Iona Keuneke of St. Mary’s, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise Keuneke in 2005; brothers, Erwin, Hubert and Marvin Keuneke, and sister-in-law L. Louise Keuneke.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services for Arnold will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at the funeral home, with his son in law, Pastor James Nutt officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service beside his wife at St. Peter German Lutheran Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the U.S. Army and Whitley County Korean War Veteran’s Honor Guard.
