Mishawaka Diving Regional: Locals Dominate The Board
MISHAWAKA – Much like has been the case for the past two years, the top of the results sheet for diving has had an Elkhart County flavor.
The tremendous trio from Northridge as well as Concord’s finest comprised the top four spots at the Mishawaka Diving Regional Tuesday evening, paced by champion Sara Troyer of Northridge, who topped all divers with her 11-dive score of 489.40.
Troyer, a junior who won the Northridge Sectional last Saturday with a sectional-smashing 521.90, finished tenth in the state finals in 2016 and also appeared in the state finals as a freshman. Troyer’s teammates, Rylee Dahlman and Mary Grossman, were second and third in the results. Dahlman came up with a 478.40 and Grossman was right behind at 470.40, marking the second straight year the the three are headed to the state finals. Grossman was eighth in the state finals last year, Dahlman ninth.
Boone, a senior from Concord, makes her fourth trip to the state finals. Boone, who finished 12th last year’s state finals, placed fourth Tuesday at the Mishawaka pool with her score of 456.40. Boone also finished 12th as a sophomore at the state finals and 17th as a freshman.
Also punching tickets to the state finals from the Mishawaka Regional, which takes the top eight finishers to Indianapolis, were Lake Central’s Kallie Higgins (418.30), Valparaiso’s Brooke McKeon (400.70), Chesterton’s Piper Downing (345.30) and New Prairie’s Hannah Chlebowski (338.95).
Diving preliminaries begin Saturday morning, with the finals taking place during the swim championship meet. Swim prelims start at 6 p.m. Friday night at the IUPUI Natatorium.
