Whitko Basketball: Walpole Earns Second POW Nod
INDIANAPOLIS – Whitko boys basketball star Nate Walpole continues to be recognized for his stellar player, garnering the IBCA Player of the Week honor for the week of Jan. 30 through Feb. 4.
Walpole, the boys representative from District 1, averaged 31.5 points and 8.5 assists while helping the Whitko (10-7) boys to two triumphs. The 6-0 guard tossed in 23 points with six rebounds, nine assists and two steals in a 77-39 decision over North Miami. He followed by producing 40 points with eight rebounds, eight assists and two steals as the Wildcats beat Eastbrook 84-58. Walpole converted 21-of-37 field goals, 8-of-16 3-pointers and 13-of-14 free throws over both games. The Eastbrook point total was his second 40-plus point game of the season, following a 46-point effort against Tippecanoe Valley.
Walpole also won the award Dec. 12 which included his monster game against Tippecanoe Valley.
Also garnering award for this week include Central Noble sophomore Sydney Freeman, Greenfield-Central senior Madison Wise, Bedford North Lawrence sophomore Jorie Allen, junior Christian Harvey of Richmond and Morristown junior Hayden Langkabel.
For the season, Walpole is among the top statistical players in the state, averaging 26.8 points, 6.2 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.9 steals per night. His points per game average has him fifth in the state among qualifying scorers and his assists are 10th in the state per Max Preps.
