Wawasee Robotics Sending Eight Teams To State
SYRACUSE — Wawasee High School Robotics Club, “Iron Pride,” competed in the Crown Point qualifier Saturday, Feb. 11. Three teams qualified for the state tournament Saturday, Feb. 25, in Zionsville, joining five other teams which had previously qualified for the state tourney.
Team 574C “Spartan” of Joe Kelsheimer, Micah Rassi and Nick Murphy won the tournament Saturday in addition to claiming the title of robot skills winner for the second week in a row.
Based on their robot skills challenge scores, team 574B “Berserker” of Madi McDonald, Jade Davidson, Ivy Rehborg and Sophie Miller and team 574X “Sphygmomanometer Kanagasabapathy” of Mandi Mall, Sidney Smith, Chase Nave and Zach Avery also qualified for the state tourney.
The three teams will join the five other teams at Zionsville. The other five teams are: 574A “Musketeers” Luke Tyler, Braxton Oberg, Hunter Newlin, Taylor Large and Conner Erlenwein; 574D “Iron Knight” Braxton Studabaker, Jack Collins, Riley Halsey and Cory Dunivan; 574E “Immortals” Cedric Church, Abdiel Sanchez, Tim Michaels and Joe LeCount; and 574F “Centurion” Hudson Bonner, Jossie Coy, Colten Edgar and Wesley Hays (all of Wawasee Middle School); 574M “Legends” Max Hurst, Emilia Layne, Conrad Foreman and Anthon Anker.
According to Jed Wandland, robotics instructor, Wawasee has more teams competing at the state tourney than any other organization in Indiana.
