Grace Basketball: Warble, Box Join Program
WINONA LAKE – The Grace College women’s basketball team picked up two more players for the 2017-18 season.
Kaylie Warble is an All-State post player from West Noble High School, and Micaela Box is a transfer from Ursuline College.
Warble is one of the best athletes to come out of West Noble High School. She holds the career record for most rebounds (823 total) and her 885 career points ranked ninth in school history.
The 6-foot-1 post earned All-State, All-Northeast Indiana, All-Area and All-Conference accolades on the hardwood. As a senior, she produced 14.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.
“I chose Grace College because I wanted to go to a Christian school for basketball,” Warble said. “I loved the atmosphere at Grace during my college visit, and I’m ready to be an impact player for the team.”
Warble finished her time on the basketball court by breaking nearly every rebounding record. She holds the record for most rebounds in a career (823), in a season (307) and in a single game (22).
The three-time captain also finished fifth in team history with 75 career blocks.
“We are excited to have Kaylie join our Lady Lancer family. She will bring a toughness to our post play,” said Grace head coach Scott Blum. “We look forward to Kaylie growing spiritually and athletically. She had a very successful career at West Noble, and we pray she will continue to do great things for our program over the next four years.”
Apart from the basketball court, Warble also excelled in volleyball and softball. She was an All-Conference performer in both sports and set the single-season kills record in 2016 with 393 kills on a .480 percentage. She was named the KPC Prep Player of the Year for volleyball.
“Kaylie Warble is one of the finest basketball players to wear a uniform at West Noble,” said West Noble head coach Dale Marano. “She is outstanding in the classroom and is a great representative in the community. Her ability to run the floor and her nose for the ball make her a perfect fit at Grace.”
Box is a Bremen High School product who will be transferring to Grace from NCAA Div. II Ursuline College.
Box, who will have three years of eligibility left for the Lady Lancers, played three games for Ursuline this year.
The 5-foot-7 guard was a three-time All-Conference player at Bremen. She graduated as the third all-time leader in points scored with 924 and also holds the single-season scoring average record after producing 20.0 points per game as a junior.
“I chose Grace because I felt that this is where God is calling me. I’m excited for basketball, academics, and most importantly my faith here at Grace,” Box said. “I would like to help Grace win our conference and get to nationals.”
Box was named honorable mention for the IBCA All-State Team as a junior and senior and was invited to the IHSAA Top 100 Showcase. She was invited three times to the Michiana McDonald’s All-Star Game.
“Micaela will bring added depth to our roster with her ability to handle the ball and shoot the three. She is an outstanding young lady who wants to excel on the court while also growing in her walk with the Lord,” Blum said. “We are excited to add Micaela to our Lady Lancer family, and we look forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for her at Grace.”
Box also played softball, helping Bremen to a state semifinal berth and a regional championship as a junior.
