Mishawaka Diving Regional: Brown, Leas, Jenkins Advance To State
MISHAWAKA – A trio of local divers advanced to the IHSAA State Finals after qualifying at the Mishawaka Diving Regional.
Logan Brown of Elkhart Central finished second overall with 492.30 points, only short of regional champion Matt Mitchell of LaPorte who won with 537.90 points. Brown was the sectional champion from the Northridge sectional.
Also from the area earning a state berth in diving are Austin Leas of Concord and Terik Jenkins of Northridge. Leas placed fourth with a score of 423.60 while Jenkins made the final cut spot in eighth with his 353.10 points, well clear of ninth place by nearly 19 points.
NorthWood’s Caden Jenkins was 10th at 330.45 and then came the the qualifiers from the Warsaw sectional in Justin Moser in 14th at 224.20, Cameron Bowell of Warsaw in 16th at 192.25, Conner Matthews of Plymouth – the Warsaw champion – in 17th at 191.30, and Travis Shull of Tippecanoe Valley in 19th at 183.25.
Qualifying for state from the Mishawaka Regional also were Ryan Bledsoe of Valparaiso, Nick Kehoe of LaPorte, James Davis of Merrillville and Milton Roberts of Crown Point.
Diving preliminaries for the IHSAA State Finals begins at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. The top 16 from preliminaries continue onto the finals which begin with swim events at 1 p.m.
