Grace Basketball: Richardson, Drake Earn Honors
WINONA LAKE – The postseason All-Crossroads League Team saw two members of the Grace College women’s basketball team honored.
Haley Richardson was named to the league’s Third Team while Vironnica Drake earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.
The duo were key figures in Grace’s fourth-place finish in the league standings, helping the Lady Lancers to their third-most league wins in program history.
Richardson, a 6-3 senior forward, averaged 10.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Richardson, who played at West Noble High School and then for two seasons at Ball State before transferring to Grace, shot a team-leading 48 percent from the floor and also added 1.6 assists per game.
Drake, a 5-7 guard from Marion, was one of the top freshman scorers in the league. She produced 12.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game in a strong first season. She tallied career highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds on Tuesday in Grace’s win over Taylor in the Crossroads League Tournament quarterfinals.
The Lady Lancers will play in the semifinals on Friday at 7 p.m. at defending national champion Marian. The winner of the CL Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships.
