Whitko Basketball: West Hits 1,000 In Win
MONROEVILLE — Whitko closed the regular season off on a high note with a win over Heritage Saturday evening. The Wildcats overcame a horrendous third quarter to beat the Patriots 44-38.
Whitko scored just two points in the third quarter and trailed 26-23 going into the fourth. The Wildcats turned things around and outscored the Patriots 21-12 in the final frame.
Nate Walpole led the Wildcats with 20 points but it was River West that had the milestone on the night. The junior passed the 1,000-point threshold for career scoring with an eight-point effort. He becomes just the 10th Wildcat all-time to hit quadruple digits in scoring.
West is now in the company of past Wildcats Chad Christman, Alex Frantz, Zach Henson, Logan Irwin, Jim Juillerat, Mike Kline, Steve Nicodemus, Jeff Peters, Zac VanDeWater and Walpole, who currently sits at 1,961 career points.
Spencer Sroufe scored five points and led the team with nine boards.
Whitko (14-8) plays Central Noble Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Westview Sectional.
Whitko’s JV squad fell 33-32. No stats were provided for the game.
