NHDI is a yearlong program dedicated to enhancing history education in Indiana’s schools. Students in grades four through 12 explore a historical subject and then use their research to create documentaries, exhibits, papers, performances and websites. To reach the state contest, students must qualify at one of six regional contests around Indiana—with the north regional contest being the first of 2017.
Volunteer judges are still needed at four other NHDI regional competitions in Indianapolis (March 11), Hanover (March 18), Nashville (April 1) and Evansville (April 8). In addition, judges are needed for the Indianapolis Public Schools contest (March 15), which will be held in downtown Indianapolis at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, home of IHS and the Indiana Experience.
Those interested in volunteering can sign up online. NHDI contests are sponsored by IHS, with support from the Hoover Family Foundation, the Richard W. and Irene Rooker Family Foundation, the TCU Foundation and the Vigran Family Foundation.
