Boys Basketball: Mangas Among The IBCA Elite
INDIANAPOLIS – Warsaw senior Kyle Mangas keeps reeling in the accolades, but so did several area ballers as the IBCA recognized its Supreme 15 and All-State lists.
Mangas was named to the IBCA Supreme 15, which spotlights the top boys basketball players in the state. Mangas has already had to make room on his trophy mantle, earning All-Northern Lakes Conference, Ink Free News Player of the Year, Times-Union Player of the Year, IBCA Player of the Week twice, a McDonald’s Michiana All-Star and just this week signed on to continue playing basketball at Indiana Wesleyan.
Fifteen seniors and 15 underclass girls basketball players were selected to the Supreme 15 All-State, as were 15 senior and underclass members for the Large School (4A/3A) and Small School (2A/1A) All-State awards. A total of 85 Honorable Mention All-States for seniors and underclass were also announced.
The IBCA/Subway All-State teams are selected through a process organized by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and presented by Subway Restaurants of Indiana.
All IBCA-member head coaches have the opportunity to nominate players from their schools or opposing schools. A panel of 22 IBCA coaches (16 from the traditional non-class regional areas, plus six district representatives — two each from IHSAA Districts 1, 2 and 3), then meets to review those nominations, vote and finalize the selections.
Earning Large School All-State included NorthWood standout Vinny Miranda, who became another 1,000-point scorer for highly-ranked Panthers. Miranda helped NorthWood win 20 games in four straight seasons, the only class in school history to achieve that mark.
Earning Small School All-State were the trio of Nate Walpole of Whitko, Grant Johnson of Triton and Jalen Paul of Churubusco. Walpole was a scoring machine for the Wildcats, finishing with 1,977 points in his storied career and finished as one of the top 20 scorers in the state three years in a row. Walpole finished his senior year with 27 points and 6 assists per night. Johnson was a manchild for the Trojans, who rose to go undefeated in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference and averaged 15 points and seven rebounds. Jalen Paul drove the ship for the Eagles, averaging 22 points and eight assists per game.
Named Honorable Mention All-State by the IBCA included Dakota Barkley of Churubusco, Adonis Brown and Cornell Conner of Elkhart Central, Nick Felke of Plymouth, Michael Green of South Bend Adams, Cody Holmes of Northfield, Wyatt Hughes of Maconaquah, Jeremiah Johnson of Peru, Luke Morrison of Northridge, Vinny Mosson of Argos, Brandon Nichols of East Noble, Zac Pitney of Triton and Matt Strong of John Glenn.
