Phil Lagene Enyeart
Phil Lagene Enyeart, 90, North Manchester, passed away on April 9, 2017 at Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester.
Phil was born June 8, 1926 to Garrett Lee and Truth Pauline (Ogden) Enyeart in Liberty Mills. After graduating from Chester High School in 1944, Phil entered the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1944-1946 where he served as an engine mechanic on B-29s. After serving in the military, Phil graduated from Manchester College in 1950. On March 2, 1951 Phil married Carolyn Slack. They were married for 54 years before she passed away on Dec. 13, 2005.
In 1959, he received his Masters Degree from Ball State. Phil never forgot his time in the service and was a member of the American Legion Post #286, North Manchesterand the Isaac Walton League. Phil made his biggest mark on peoples’ lives as a teacher for 34 years. He taught at Linlawn and Noble Township High Schools for three years. Phil taught Psychology, Health & Safety, World History, and Physical Education at Manchester High School. He was Department Head of Driver’s Training and Physical Education at Manchester High School where he also coached football, wrestling, track, and junior varsity basketball. Phil started the Manchester High School varsity golf program in 1958 and was coach for two years.
When Phil wasn’t shaping young peoples’ lives, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. After retiring from teaching, Phil became a member of the Wabash County Retired Teachers Association and the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association. He also served on the Manchester Community School Board from 1996-2000 and 2010-2013.
Phil is survived by two daughters: Pam Enyeart, Spring Grove, Ill.; and Rita (Tom) Deininger, Fort Wayne; one brother Ned (Janet) Enyeart, Ontario, Ore.; and three grandchildren: Jenna, Jared, and Joel Deininger.
Phil was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn and three brothers Truman, Todd, and Jack Enyeart.
Family and friends may call from 2-8 p.m. April 21 at McKee Mortuary 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Services will be held at 11 a.m. April 22. with one hour of calling prior to the start of the service at North Manchester United Methodist Church, 306 East 2nd Street, North Manchester. Pastor Larry Ray and Pastor Mark Eastway will officiate. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
