Warsaw Girls Basketball: Krebs Tabbed To Guide Program
WARSAW – The new Warsaw girls basketball coach will have no trouble finding his way around the Northern Lakes Conference.
He should also have a pretty good scouting report on Goshen too.
Lenny Krebs was approved Monday night by the School Board to take over as the sixth coach of the program.
Krebs, who replaces Michelle Harter, has spent the last 14 seasons as the head coach at Goshen. The RedHawks, like Warsaw, are members of the NLC.
Harter, who resigned last month to pursue college coaching opportunities, was 136-70 in her nine seasons at WCHS.
Krebs is a very familiar face to area basketball fans. He played at Fairfield High School and then for coach Jim Kessler at Grace College. He began his coaching career on the boys side before switching to the girls and beginning his work as an assistant for Steve Neff at NorthWood.
“We are very excited that Lenny Krebs will become our next girls’ basketball coach,” said WCS Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert in a release. “Coach Krebs is known for his strong development of student athletes both on the basketball court and through development of character.”
Krebs fashioned a 130-174 mark in his 14 seasons at Goshen. His top season came in 2014-15 when Goshen posted an 18-5 overall mark, including a 5-2 finish in the NLC.
Goshen was 8-15 overall and 1-6 in league play during the 2016-17 season. Krebs’ stepdaughter Ashton Ellis was the standout point guard for that team and recently signed to play at Lake Superior State University, an NCAA Division II program in Michigan.
Krebs takes over a Warsaw team that loses six seniors from a 20-4 squad. Included among the graduation losses for the Tigers, who were 5-2 in the NLC, are top scorers Dayton Groninger and Madi Graham. The key players expected back next season include Kacy Bragg, Kaylee Patton, Kennedy Patton and Emma Bohnenkamper.
Krebs becomes the sixth girls basketball coach in WCHS history. He joins Harter, John Snyder, Will Wienhorst, Mary Hurley and Jan Soyez to guide the program.
