Whitko Sports Wrap: April 21
Baseball
The Whitko baseball team picked up yet another win Friday evening. The Wildcats downed Lakeland 8-5 behind a solid offensive night from River West.
West was 3-3 at the dish with four RBIs, two stolen bases and one run scored. The Wildcats had eight hits on the night to Lakeland’s seven. Whitko went to bat in six innings, scoring in five of those appearances, with the second inning being the only exception.
Alex Robbins pitched six innings, striking out three and recording no earned runs on his way to getting the win.
Whitko (11-1) hosts Tippecanoe Valley Monday night.
Softball
Revenge was sweet for the Whitko softball team. The Wildcats entered the night with an 8-1 record, the one loss being a 6-5 defeat to Central Noble. The Cougars came to South Whitley Friday night and were kicked back out on the wrong end of a 10-0 decision in six innings.
Whitko had 10 hits in the game with Kennedy Krull and Emmy Duggins each getting a pair of RBIs in the contest. Kristina Slater, Andrea Snavely, Shi Bradley and Anna Ousley all had one RBI for the home team.
Ellie Snep pitched all six innings for Whitko, recording the shutout, giving up one hit and earning eight strikeouts in the process.
Whitko (9-1) will compete in the Wawasee Invite Saturday morning.
