Panthers Take First At Goshen Relays
GOSHEN — The 2017 Goshen Relays were held Saturday afternoon. The annual event saw Carroll walk away with the Class A title with 109 points while NorthWood took home the Class B title with 97 points.
The Panthers won six events on the day, starting with Bronson Yoder in the long jump. Yoder had a final mark of 20-3.5 to take first. West Noble’s Kyle Mawhorter (19-1.25) took second while Wawasee’s Michael Katzer (18-3.25) was third.
Brayton Yoder, Landon Parker, Taylor Knight and Garrett Griffin combined to win the 4×200 relay with a final time of 1:36.38. Yoder, Yoder, Griffin and Parker combined for a time of 44.68 to win the 4×1 relay. That same quartet won the 800 sprint medley with a time of 1:37.52. Brayton Yoder gave the Panthers their first individual win on the track by running an 11.24 to win the 100 dash. The Panthers capped their day and their title with a win in the 4×400 relay with winning time of 3:40.81 from the team of Griffin, Aaron Smith, Austin Shapland and Landen Gessinger.

Gavin Howard and Conner Sherwin went one-two in the discus throw for Whitko. Howard also took first in shotput with a mark of 50-9. The Wildcats finished tied for eighth with Prairie Heights with 46 team points in Class B.
Wawasee’s lone event win came in the 4×400 relay. The Warriors ran a final time of 3:38.47 on the legs of Eric Yankosky, Keyan Peete, Luke Griner and Sam Griner. The Warriors placed second in the 4×800 relay with the team of Griner, Griner, Spencer Hare and Michael Hammer. Elisha Tipping took seventh in the discus throw with a distance of 121-5. The Warriors took 10th as a team with a score of 43 points.
