Milford Resident Critical After Wakarusa Accident
WAKARUSA — Robert “Rob” D. Emerick, 46, Milford, is in critical condition at South Bend Memorial Hospital following a two-vehicle accident Friday, April 21, on SR 19, south of the roundabout at SR 119. Emerick suffered severe head injuries and a compound fracture to the leg.
Emerick was not initially identified as the driver of the vehicle Friday evening, pending notification of family members. Police released his identity this morning Monday, April 24.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m. According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Emerick was northbound on SR 19, in a 2007 Chevrolet 1500 when for an unknown reason the truck went left of center. Emerick’s vehicle collided with a southbound 2004 Jeep Liberty. The Jeep was driven by Eric G. Wallace, 68, Napa, Calif.
Wallace suffered a laceration to the hand and head injuries. A passenger in his vehicle, Nancy A. Wallace, 69, Napa, Calif., complained of pain to the ribs. The Wallaces were transported to Elkhart General Hospital.
Emerick, the sole occupant of the truck, was airlifted to Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
