Wawasee, Goshen Hosting Strike Out Cancer Event
SYRACUSE – They normally wear green and red, but Friday both Wawasee and Goshen will wear pink.
The two programs are coming together to battle a bigger enemy, cancer, in Friday’s Strike Out Cancer Together event. The game is set for 5 p.m. at Wawasee for both varsity and JV contests. The event is intended to be continued in the annual series, moving to Goshen next year and so on.
Several sidebar activities will surround the games, including pink T-shirts on sale for $5 with the “Strike Out Cancer” declaration on the front. Proceeds from the shirt sales will go to the Kosciusko County Cancer Society. Helium balloons to signify the memory of a lost loved one or a cancer survivor will be on sale for $1. There will also be a sugar cookie bake sale and a donation bucket will go around for both spectator bases in hopes of additional funds to be raised. The cookie bake sale will continue throughout the remainder of the regular season home games.
The first pitch will be thrown out by cancer fighter Sonia Hunziker, mother of Wawasee player Marissa Hunziker.
