Alois ‘Lou’ Kohl
Alois “Lou” Kohl, 81, Indianapolis, passed away at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Golden Living Center in Elkhart.
He was born on Aug. 16, 1935 in Kleve, Germany to Heinrich and Margaret Kohl.
He attended high school in Germany and served in the German military in his youth. He moved to Patterson, N.J. in 1960 from Germany. He lived in Monroe, N.Y. and Washington, N.Y. before moving to Lafayette in 1982. He later moved to Indianapolis area. He formerly was a butcher in Germany. After he moved to the United States he was a butcher for Holland Cruise Lines and Shop Rite Grocery Stores. He was the owner/operator of a butcher shop in Beacon for ten years and was the chauffeur for Jim Irsay for five years. He retired as a truck driver for Knights Trucking Company in Indianapolis after several years of service.
He was raised in the Catholic Church in Germany and was a member of the New Hope Catholic Church in Indianapolis. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer ambulance driver in Washington, NY.
He is survived by two daughters: Linda (Mike) Tygert-Lillard, Snohomish, Wash; and Caitlin (Ryan) Pawlowski, France; a son, Henry (Marilyn) Kohl, Syracuse; nine grandchidlren: Matt Tygert, Chris Tygert, Megan Walstra, Ashley Cruz, Kirstie Kohl, Amy Kohl, Melissa Brummett, McKenna Pawlowski, and Reece Pawlowski; 16 great grandchildren
He was preceded by his parents and sister, Maria Kohl.
Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 St. Rd. 15, Warsaw, IN. Private family services will be held at a later date. Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S Huntington St., Syracuse, IN 46567 is in charge of arrangements.
