Bone City Derby: Rollers Skate Past Twin City
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Bone City used a consistent scoring approach to beat Twin City Dead Ringers, 247-138, Saturday evening in roller derby among the Land of Lincoln.
A key jam in the first period by Diamond scored 24 points, which gave the Rollers a 90-45 lead after the visitors had not scored in the previous two jams. That propelled Bone City to gain a ton of momentum, outscoring the Ringers 59-28 the rest of the half to take a 149-73 lead into the break.
Bone City kept up the pressure in the second half. Despite skating with three less girls due to injury, Bone City used some clutch blocking and chipped away at points when available. A 22-point jam by B-Squared capped the victory.
Diamond and B-Squared both finished with a team-high 57 points off the jam, and Unraveled Kaos added 55 jam points. Dirty South chipped in 37 jam points.
The bout helped support the Twin City charity, Three Spinners, which is a non-profit dedicated to rebuilding the lives of newly settled refugee families through the generosity of the Champaign-Urbana community. Clothes, school supplies, dictionaries of multiple languages and laundry supplies were all collected. The bout volunteers also dressed as super heroes to support National Super Hero Day.
