HNAC Girls Track: Dancing With The Stars
KNOX – It was a night where the stars of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference shined bright. Madison Kiser, Adrianna Dague and Casey Korniak had historic nights at the HNAC Girls Track Championships Tuesday evening.
Kiser, a senior from Pioneer, had an unbelievable night in the speed events, repeating as champion in the 100 (13.17), 200 (26.78), 400 (58.99) and 800 (2:28.40), although she did not break any of her original records in any of the events. All of the event records were established last year in the open of the conference.
Kiser beat Dague in the 800, but the North Judson distance star came back to win the mile (5:27.93) and two-mile (12:03.95), establishing new conference standards in both races.
Korniak broke the mark in the 100 hurdles with a run of 16.35, coming back after running a 16.66 in the qualifiers, which was one-hundredth short of Triton’s Abigail Powell record from last year, but two-hundredth’s short of Powell’s qualifying time Tuesday of 16.64. Powell would fall off the pace in the finals with a run of 17.27, taking fourth. Korniak lowered her own 2016 record in the 300 hurdles at 48.00, one-hundredth faster than her previous championship last year. Powell finished fifth in the face at 51.65.
Powell and Triton would come back to win the 4×100 relay at 53.82, run by Baylee McIntire, Mariah Musilli, Powell and Briana Wilhite. Corniak and pals won the 4×400 at 4:28.05.
Musilli was one of five long jumpers to cross 15-0 in long jump, all five within 2.5 inches of one another. Musilli was fourth at 15-0, while Payton McIntire of Knox won it at 15-2.5. Triton’s Charlotte Morris was one of five discus throwers to break the standard in the event, won by Pioneer’s Madison Kauffman at 111-02.75. Morris was third at 98-7.75.
Morgan Schumacher of North Judson won the shot put in a record throw of 35-4.25 and Pioneer’s Kayla Hill went 10-6 in pole vault to establish the new conference standard.
Pioneer won the 4×800 at 10:54.84 and North Judson’s Amanda Krzyzanowski won high jump at 5-0.
Pioneer repeated as team champions with 157.5 points, ahead of runner-up North Judson at 101, Knox at 75.5, Winamac at 61 and Triton at 58 to round out the top five. West Central (54), Caston (50), LaVille (45) and Culver (21) rounded out the team scores.
