Whitko Sports Wrap: May 10
Softball
The Whitko softball team outlasted host Rochester 3-2 in eight innings.
Ellie Snep drove in the winning run for the Wildcats with a sacrifice fly in the final frame for the Three Rivers Conference win.
Snep also notched the pitching win and had a single in the win.
Reannon Hopkins had two hits, including a double, for Whitko. Anna Ousley also had a double for the winners.
Whitko plays at Columbia City Friday evening.
Baseball
The Whitko baseball team dispatched of Rochester 8-2 in Three Rivers Conference play.
The Wildcats, who are ranked No. 7 in Class 2-A, scored in every inning except one in downing the host Zebras. Whitko outhit the hosts 11-6 and Rochester also had six errors in the game.
Drew Bradford went the first 6 2/3 innings to notch the win for Whitko. He fanned 13 and walked just one.
Zach Hewitt led the offense for Whitko with three hits, including a home run and a double, and two RBI.
Alex Bechtold also slueed a home run for the winners. Landen Goff had two hits and scored two runs, while Alex Robbins had two hits, including a double. Bradford had two hits with a double and scored two runs.
Whitko improves to 18-5 overall and goes to 5-2 in league play. Rochester drops to 7-14 overall and stands 3-4 in the TRC.
Whitko plays at Peru Monday night.
