Whitko Students Named Electric Cooperative Student Art Contest Winners
WHITKO — Indiana’s electric cooperatives and their statewide magazine, Electric Consumer, have named the winners of the 20th annual Cooperative Calendar of Student Art Contest. Whitko High School had four winners.
Sidney Overmeyer, sophomore, and Madelyn Foutz, senior, each earned first place for their work. Ella Kay Danner, freshman, and Kyle Herr, junior, both earned honorable mention.
A first place artist was selected for each grade, K-12. Each will receive $200. Their artwork will illustrate the cover and the 12 months of a 2018 calendar. Nine additional artists earned an honorable mention award and $50. These works will appear in a special section of the calendar.
“We are proud to be a part of recognizing and showcasing the artistic talents of our youth,” said Tom VanParis, CEO of Indiana Electric Cooperatives.
Artwork was judged on artistic merit, originality, creativity, and its suitability for a wall calendar. The art contest is open to any Indiana K-12 student. Approximately 2,720 pieces of artwork were entered in this year’s contest.
Winning art can be viewed online. The 2018 wall calendar will be available at the offices of participating Indiana electric cooperatives in early autumn.
