Warsaw Softball: Tigers Split In Tourney
WARSAW – The Warsaw softball team picked up a win and a loss in its own Tiger Tournament Saturday.
The hosts opened the day with a 17-2 win over Fort Wayne Wayne before falling to Homestead 6-1 in the title game of the annual tourney.
Senior Abby Glass fired a one-hitter and had eight strikeouts in the circle as Warsaw beat Wayne in five innings.
The Tigers scored once in the first inning and then four times in the second, five in the third and seven more in the fourth in the win. The hosts had 19 hits in the victory.
Junior Saylor Bradley led the offensive outburst for the Tigers by going 4-4 with five RBI. She had a home run and a double in the win.
Senior Morgan Ashtari had three hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs. Sophomore Shannon Randels had three hits, including a double. The quartet of sophomore Carmen Albertson, senior Lauren Shaffner, sophomore Courtney Chookie and Glass each had two hits. Albertson and Shaffner each had two RBI.
Homestead took control in the title game by scoring three runs in the first frame. The champions made it 6-0 with a single tally in the second and a pair of runs in the fourth frame. Warsaw plated its lone run in the fourth inning.
Homestead outhit the Tigers 11-6 in the finale and the hosts committed four errors in the contest.
Chookie took the pitching loss as she allowed three earned runs. She had one strikeout and two walks.
Glass led the offense with three hits, including a double. Shaffner drove in the lone run for the Tigers.
Warsaw hosts Concord Monday evening in a conference game before entertaining Elkhart Central Tuesday evening.
