Whitko Softball: Wildcats Fall In 8 At North Miami
DENVER — Ellie Snep gave up a pair of walks and a single in the bottom of the eighth, and Whitko softball suffered a tough, eight-inning loss to Three Rivers Conference foe North Miami on the road Wednesday, 2-1.
Jada Laycock and Marlie Halterman coaxed walks from Snep, and Maryann Freeman singled in Laycock for the extra-inning walk-off with two outs in the eighth to seal the Wildcats’ fate.
Laycock’s was one of just four hits given up by Snep in the loss. She recorded seven strikeouts versus only four walks and one earned run as the Whitko defense’s lone error at the contest wound up costing the team a run in the fifth to tie the game at 1-1.
Snep’s single in the first drove in Riley Insley for the Wildcats’ only run of the night. Insley recorded two hits to lead Whitko at the plate. Kennedy Krull, Kristina Slater and Shianna Bradley singled for Whitko, which out-hit the Warriors 6-4 in the loss but left four runners stranded in scoring position.
The Wildcats finish their TRC schedule at 7-2, good enough for second place in the conference. Whitko is back in action Thursday at Fort Wayne Wayne.
