Hunting For A Cure
KOSCIUSKO — The “Coyotes for Charity” hunters from Kosciusko Miami, Wabash, Fulton, Grant, Howard, Marshall, Carroll, Whitley, Cass and Huntington counties have harvested 353 coyotes this past season.
The coyote pelts were prepared for auction by Larry Frank, Macy, and Terry Manley, North Webster. Manley is a U.S. receiving agent for North American Fur Auctions in Toronto, Canada, where the pelts were sent to be sold.
This is the 14th year for “Coyotes for Charity,” who started in 2004 with four hunters harvesting five coyotes to 2017 with over 228 hunters harvesting 353 coyotes. Money raised is matched by the Square D Foundation through the Relay for Life Campaign and was also matched four years by a generous individual in Miami County. All money raised is donated to the American Cancer Society.
The group wants to thank the landowners and farmers for the opportunity to hunt. This year’s hunt makes the total harvest of 2,721 coyotes and over $67,964 given to the American Cancer Society over the 14 years. There are 140 coyotes yet to be sold.
