Adkins Sentenced For Time Out Inn Fight
WARSAW — The man who threatened off-duty bouncers with a gun at Time Out Inn on June 18, 2016 has been sentenced.
Jeffrey Allen Adkins, 25, 205 E. Pearl St., Syracuse, was sentenced on charges of battery with moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony, and carrying a handgun without a license, a class A misdemeanor.
Warsaw Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired at the Time Out Inn on June 18, 2016. When officers arrived they found a subject, Adkins, being held down in the parking lot. It was reported that Adkins had blood coming from his nose and left cheek area.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, an off-duty bouncer from Time Out Inn was drinking with another off-duty bouncer when they noticed Adkins causing problems with other patrons of the bar.
The two bouncers approached Adkins, telling him it was time to leave and then escorted him to the front door of the establishment. When all three exited the building, Adkins then struck one of the bouncers with a beer bottle to the side of the bouncer’s face.
The bouncers reported Adkins walked into the middle of the parking lot and yelled that he had a gun and he would shoot them. Adkins then walked to his vehicle and produced a handgun and fired it into the air.
Both bouncers tackled Adkins, taking him to the ground, where they kept him pinned until police arrived.
A patron of the bar gave officers a black Kel-tec 9 mm handgun that had been fired by Adkins. A 9 mm shell casing was found under Adkins’ vehicle.
Adkins denied owning a handgun, but later admitted he owned the Kel-tec 9 mm. He did not have a permit.
“I apologize to the court and the community. I’m just extremely sorry. Nothing like this will ever ever happen again,” Adkins said in Kosciusko Superior Court 1 on Thursday, June 1.
A pre-sentence investigation revealed that Adkins had called himself a victim. Judge David Cates was quick to point out this wasn’t the case. “You are the perpetrator,” said Judge Cates. “Don’t tell me you’re a victim, don’t tell anyone else you’re a victim, because you’re not.”
For battery causing moderate bodily injury Adkins was sentenced to 2 1/2 years at the Kosciusko Sheriff’s Department. One year was suspended to be served on probation. For carrying a handgun without a permit Adkins received one year, to be served concurrently to the prior sentence. He is allowed to serve the sentence at community corrections.
Adkins was further sentenced to substance abuse counseling at Bowen Center and prohibited from entering Time Out Inn.
