Ruth Virginia Martin
Ruth Virginia Martin, 91, Goshen, passed away at 10:10 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017, at her daughter’s residence.
She had been ill for two years. Ruth was born on Sept. 23, 1925 in Dayton, Va., to Ephriam and Katie (Blosser) Lahman. She married Naaman S. Martin on Oct. 20, 1948 in Wakarusa. He survives.
Ruth was a homemaker and she enjoyed making things with her hands. She liked crocheting, embroidering, and quilting. She also ran a home bakery for many years, and she sold baked goods at South Bend Farmer’s Market. We all enjoyed her bread, cinnamon rolls, cakes, cookies, noodles, and pies.
In her later years she cracked many black walnuts with a walnut cracker that her father had made.
Surviving are her husband, Naaman, children, Lois (Arthur) Zimmerman of Nappanee, Mark (Linda) Martin of Nappanee, Arlene (Kenny) Shaum of Nappanee, Mary Lou Wright of Goshen, Owen (Wanda) Martin of Goshen, Dwight (Carla) Martin of Sundance, Wyoming, and Loretta (David) Pence of Broadway, Virginia; 35 grandchildren; 93 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and sister Charlotte Martin of Goshen. Preceding her in death are her parents, a granddaughter Waneta Rodes, a great-grandson, Tanner Zimmerman, sister Anna Martin, and brothers Wilmer, Roy, Lester, and John Lahman.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 7, from 6-8 p.m., and Thursday, June 8, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Ramer Mennonite Youth Center (24647 CR 44, Nappanee). Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Cornerstone Mennonite Church (CR 44, Nappanee). Ministers Ben and DeWayne Martin will officiate. Burial will follow at Cornerstone Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Galilean Children’s Home. Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
