Three-Day Celebration Planned For ‘A League Of Their Own’ Anniversary
HUNTINGBURG — A three-day celebration commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Sony motion picture “A League of Their Own” is set for June 15 to 17 in Huntingburg.
Huntingburg’s League Stadium, now home to the Dubois County Bombers collegiate baseball team, served as the filming location for the 1992 movie. Actors Bitty Schram (“Evelyn Gardner”), Justin Scheller (“Stilwell Gardner”), and Ryan Olsen (“Dollbaby Kid”) will participate in the weekend’s festivities.
A big-screen showing of the film kicks off the celebration at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 15 at The Gaslight. All ages are invited to attend the free event.
A 1940s Cocktail Event will take place on Friday, June 16 at the Huntingburg Event Center. The evening will include guest speakers, food and drinks, the premiere of a nine-inning documentary spotlighting the making of the film, and more. Tickets cost $40 and are available for purchase online at HuntingburgChamber.TicketLeap.com. Sponsored tables are also available through the Huntingburg Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the League Stadium Endowment through the Dubois County Foundation to preserve the historic landmark.
The celebration continues Saturday, June 17 in conjunction with the Dubois County Bombers game at League Stadium. Gates will open early with kid’s games and activities hosted by Bombers and Peaches. A long-awaited Peaches versus Belles rematch will take place prior to the Bombers taking on the Hoptown Hoppers. Tickets to the game are available by calling the Bombers office at 812-683-3700.
Actress Bitty Schram, who played Evelyn Gardner in the film, will make special guest appearances at both Friday and Saturday’s events. Her iconic scene with Tom Hanks, “There’s no crying in baseball,” was filmed at Huntingburg League Stadium. Schram will share her experience filming the movie, meet with fans, and participate in Bombers activities. The appearance also reunites Schram with her on-screen son, Stilwell Gardner, played by Justin Scheller, who will attend both events.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released “A League of Their Own” on Blu-ray and Digital HD for the first time on April 18. The 25th-anniversary edition includes 15 deleted scenes, filmmaker commentary, actor interviews, and more.
