Warsaw Man Faces Fraud And Forgery Charges
WARSAW — A Warsaw man is facing fraud and forgery charges after stealing and cashing unauthorized checks from his employer.
John Dimmitt, W. Winona Avenue, Warsaw, is being charged with two counts of fraud on financial institution, level 5 felonies, and two counts of forgery, level 6 felonies.
According to the affidavit of probable cause on May 24, an officer took a fraud report from an employee of Ranger Materials.
The payroll manager told officers that two employees of Ranger Materials had informed her that an employee, Dimmitt, had stolen several checks and had fraudulently cashed them.
The payroll manager had looked through her records and found several checks had been stolen and cashed by Dimmitt. According to court documents, from May 8 to May 19, Dimmitt cashed checks in the amounts of $429, $578 and $485. All the checks had the forged signature of the owner of the company.
The owner did not sign the checks or give permission to anyone else to sign them.
Surveillance video was obtained from Walmart and still shots from the video were taken. Officers were able to identify Dimmitt as the individuals cashing the stolen checks.
Dimmitt was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on June 6 with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
