Bethel Basketball: Stutzman Inks With Pilots
GOSHEN – The Bethel College men’s basketball program has landed another former area prep standout.
Nathan Stutzman, a sharp-shooting guard from Clinton Christian, signed with the Pilots Wednesday.
Stutzman had a prolific high school career at Clinton Christian, a school of just over 200 students located in rural Goshen. He led the Couriers to a 21-5 mark during the 2016-17 campaign, including the state title of the Indiana Christian School Athletic Association tournament.
Stutzman, a 6-2 backcourt ace, averaged 21.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.6 steals and 2.4 blocked shot per game for coach Chad Schrock’s squad. He shot 64 percent on two-point field goals, 43 percent on 3-pointers and 83 percent from the free throw line during his senior year.
Stutzman led his team to a 70-29 mark during his career as four-time team MVP. He set school records in numerous categories, including for career points (2,012), single-season points (610) and single-game points (44).
Stutzman played at Bethel back in March in the McDonald’s Michiana All-Star Game. He drained 17 points in that contest, which featured some of the top high school players from Northern Indiana.
Bethel finished 31-5 this past season and won both the Crossroads League regular-season title and tournament championship. The Pilots advanced to the Elite 8 of the NAIA Division II Nationals. Ryne Lightfoot, a former standout at NorthWood High School and Bethel, enters his first season as the Bethel coach. Lightfoot, formerly an assistant coach for the Pilots, replaced his father Mike.
Stutzman, the son of Loren and Joann Stutzman of Middlebury, also considered Anderson University.
