UPDATE — Five-Year-Old Child Injured In Car, Pedestrian Accident
WARSAW — A five-year-old girl was airlifted for injuries last night, June 15, after being hit by a vehicle. At approximately 8:31 p.m., Warsaw Police, Warsaw Fire and Lutheran EMS responded to the accident at the intersection of North Columbia and West Pike streets, Warsaw.
Sydney Roy, 66, Warsaw, was driving north on Columbia Street. According to the accident report, she saw movement out of the corner of her eye. The next thing she knew, she saw the child “flying through the air.” Roy attempted to call 911 but was unable to use her phone due to the panic of the situation.
Neighbors claim the accident was not Roy’s fault because there have been issues with the child crossing the road without looking for oncoming traffic in the past.
The five-year-old girl sustained substantial visible injuries to her face. She was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. The child is reportedly in intensive care as of this morning.
Roy did not receive any injuries. A breath sample was taken at the scene and showed no signs of alcohol. She further stated she was not under the influence of any drug and was not using her phone at the time of the collision.
