Warsaw Community High School In Preliminary Stages To Receive Student Activities Center
WARSAW — Warsaw Community High School is in the preliminary stages of constructing a student activities center and completing structural improvements.
During the Warsaw School Board meeting held Monday, June 19, chief financial officer Brandon Penrod advised the board that the Warsaw Community Schools Facility Committee recommended the board authorize the notice for a hearing on updates to improve WCHS.
Penrod explained the hearing would revolve around a project that is estimated to cost $10 million. The total will include various projects to construct a student activities center and complete improvements to the school. Penrod explained the project will not raise taxes. The funds for the project will come from the refinancing of bonds and community partnerships.
The hearing, which has yet to be scheduled, will include more details of the project.
President Heather Reichenbach explained that because the high school is 25-years-old, WCHS requires general infrastructure and additional space to meet the needs of current and future students.
A motion was made by board member Matt Dick to authorize the notice of a project preliminary determination hearing for a project to complete a student activities center and other site improvements with an approximate total cost of $10 million. The motion was approved 6-0.
During the meeting, Chief Academic Advisor David Robertson asked the board to accept a $3,000 grant from the Kosciusko County Community Foundation that would go directly towards the funding the Back to the Days of Kosciusko program. The grant will go towards pay for professional actors, professional artists and other costs for the event.
Robertson added last year’s budget for the Back to the Days of Kosciusko held at Harrison Elementary School was for $1,500. With this year’s budget doubled for the event, Robertson said he hopes to expand the event.
A motion to accept the grant was approved 6-0.
