Largest Group Ever Participate In Bug Catch
SYRACUSE — The largest group ever participated in the 2017 Bug Catch Saturday morning at the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation. It’s estimated close to 125 adults and children participated this year having fun on the shore of Lake Wawasee and catching bugs.
The annual bug catch is part of the educational program offered the first Saturday of July by WACF. The bug catch, led by Nancy Brown, certified River Watch trainer, taught participants of all ages how the bugs found in the lake tell the health of the lake water. Brown also spent time prior to the start of the catch to tell the group what insects are commonly found and the rare finds.
Following the brief presentation by Brown, the crowd headed down to the shore of Lake Wawasee where parents, grandparents, friends, aunts and uncles took to the lake with the youngsters and nets. The shoreline was filled with enthusiastic youngsters and adults scooping up the sediment of the lake to see what could be found.
