Summer Movie Releases
By Melissa Chapman, Cataloging Supervisor
With the summer being unusually cool and wet, where can one go to find affordable entertainment? The Warsaw Community Public Library has a plethora of things to keep you entertained when the weather is not cooperating. We offer a wide range of DVDs, new releases, oldies, documentaries as well as television series. I would like to recommend a few for your viewing pleasure.
“The ZooKeepers Wife” is a riveting portrait of courage and decency up against spreading evil. A married couple is at odds with a Germany that suddenly becomes morally and spiritually dead in its insane endeavor to eradicate all undesirables. This is the true story about a family of zookeepers who understand that all life is worth saving. They make the incredible choice to stay in their bombed-out zoo, and hide the persecuted people in the animal cages as well as in their home. They take it upon themselves to save those who cannot save themselves. It’s a story about dignity, decency and life.
“Beauty and the Beast” is a breathtaking film which manages to capture the magic of the animated version while humanizing the characters and expanding on the timeless tale. It has all the songs you know and love, plus a few new ones. The cinematography is gorgeous. The CGI is amazing. I loved this film. It’s every girl’s dream…Beautiful
“Life” is a Sci/fi film that deserves props for creating a bizarre, original, malevolent, hideous alien. The way it moves, the strange intelligence and freaky organic structure of this evil thing is mesmerizing. The movie does a great job of sucking you in. If you liked the first “Alien” movie in 1979, you will love “Life.”
“The Great Wall” tells the story of a group of western mercenaries, searching for a powerful substance known as black powder, in China. Soon, they get involved in protecting the Great Wall of China against an army of monsters, known as the Taotie. This is an all-out action movie that explores the themes of greed and sacrifice, nobility and savagery. Matt Damon carries this movie very well and delivers an over the top performance. A fast moving movie with tons of action and hardcore battles that are very brutal and bloody, with bone crushing carnage everywhere.
We are in the middle of our yearly Summer Reading Program, which has something to offer everyone. Come in and check us out!
