Bradford Leads Area Baseball All-State
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association wrapped up the 2016-17 calendar with the release of its All-State teams for the four Indiana high school classes.
Among them was Whitko’s Drew Bradford, who landed on the Class 2-A team as a pitcher. Bradford helped Whitko to its finest season in program history and posted some staggering stats, as a pitcher going 9-1 with one save and a 1.02 ERA, 103 strikeouts in 75 1/3 innings of work, which included a no-hitter and wins in both sectional games for the Wildcats. Bradford, who was also an infielder, hit .417 at the dish with a home run, nine doubles, 34 RBI and 20 stolen bases.
Also making First Team All-State were Penn’s Trevor Waite and South Bend Clay’s Michael Payne, both for Class 4-A.
Several area players were tabbed as Honorable Mention. In Class 2-A was Whitko’s Alex Bechtold; in Class 3-A were NorthWood’s Vince Herschberger, Peru’s Sean Smith, Mishawaka Marian’s Riley Tirotta and South Bend St. Joe’s Tony Carmola; and in Class 4-A were Penn’s Nolan Metcalf and Matt Kominkiewicz, Elkhart Central’s Andrew Salmon, Elkhart Memorial’s Brett Wilson and Plymouth’s Cameron Dennie.
