Dixie Day Festival Arrives Saturday, July 29
NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce learned from Terry Frederick, The Watershed Foundation and Dixie Day co-chairman, the final Dixie Day Festival & Artisan Fair meeting will be held noon Wednesday, July 26, in the township building. All committee chairmen and interested parties are urged to attend.
Dixie Day Festival plans are well underway according to Frederick. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 29, along SR 13 downtown, on West Washington Street, North Webster Town Park, and at the Mermaid Festival Grounds. A three-day area dealers boat show will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, July 27-29 at the Mermaid Grounds.
The annual North Webster Community Guide has been so popular and distributed so well only four cases of the books remain for the rest of the year. The membership learned this from President Sue Ward, Sue’s Creations, at the monthly chamber meeting held Monday, July 10, at the Tippecanoe Township Building.
She will check on ordering more of the guides from The Papers. She also suggested additional information to be added to next year’s book.
The chamber board decided to table the chamber funding for work on the land south of town. It had been considering cleaning up an area leading into town that belongs to a private individual. Paula Miller, Miller Farm, noted, “I think it looks beautiful just the way it is. It gives a nice, natural look, and for the cost estimate given it should be left as is.” The item was tabled. If someone volunteers to spearhead the project, it might be revived.
An update on the website, www.northwebster.com, was given by Tammy Waliczek, Dixie Haven Resort. She volunteers to update the website regularly. She stated she is still looking into improving the overall functioning of the site and what that would cost. She will report back on her progress.
NIPSCO has yet to come and hook the power up at the West Washington Street pole needed for Dixie Day. Chamber member Dave’s Electric is on standby to complete the project as soon as the utility company arrives. Chris Lusso, Clearwater Carpentry, had additional phone numbers that may prove helpful.
Ward congratulated Jellystone Park Camp & Resort as the chamber’s July 2017 Business of the Month. Miller and Jen Ducey, Tippecanoe Township, delivered the sign and took the photos for the media and website.
Deea Coy, recipient of the chamber’s scholarship, sent a thank you letter for the award. She is earning her scholarship by taking care of the chamber’s information sign on SR 13 south of town.
Board member Ron Erb, Webster Lake Conservation Association, thanked the chamber for its donation to the fireworks put on by WLCA July 1. He said the support from the local businesses and community made the show possible and is greatly appreciated. All the fireworks are provided by donations, not WLCA dues.
The next meeting of the chamber will be noon Monday, Aug. 14, Tippecanoe Township Building, 102 S. Morton St.
