NorthWood Pair, Coach Set For All-Star Classic
INDIANAPOLIS – The NorthWood football program is set to be well represented come Friday night.
The Panthers have a pair of players and their head coach all set to take part in the 51st annual North/South Classic.
The game, set to be played at North Central High School in Indianapolis, will feature former NorthWood standouts Trey Bilinski and Caleb Newcomer suiting up for the North squad. Panther coach Nate Andrews will be the head coach for the North team.
Bilinski and Newcomer helped NorthWood to a stellar season last fall. The Panthers went undefeated to claim the Northern Lakes Conference title before winning Class 4-A sectional, regional and semistate championships. NorthWood concluded a 14-1 season with a 34-22 loss to Roncalli in the Class 4-A state championship game.
Bilinski, a quarterback, will play at Valparaiso University this fall. Offensive lineman Newcomer is set to play at Taylor University.
Andrews has put the winning back into the Panther program in his three years at the helm. The former NorthWood star is 28-10 in Nappanee since taking over prior to the 2014 season.
The North team will also include Rummel Johnson from Goshen, along with former Jimtown star Kenny Kerrn. The trio of JT Webb from Elkhart Central and the Penn duo of Nate Boone and Keegan Hurst will also play for the North squad.
Johnson, a receiver, and Webb, who is slated to play defensive back for the North, are both headed to Grand Valley State University. Linebacker Kerrn is going to Trine University, while defensive end Boone will attend Dartmouth. Hurst, an offensive lineman, is set to attend Brigham Young following a two-year mission trip.
The North coaching staff also includes Jimtown assistant coach Mark Kerrn.
The North won last year’s contest 10-7 and the South leads the all-time series by a 27-23 count.
Admission to the game is $10 for adults and $5 for students and tickets will be sold at the game Friday night.
The Classic is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff at North Central.
