WCS To Host Parent Tech Informational Night
WARSAW — Warsaw Community Schools invites parents to attend a night of free learning in the fields of digital learning and safety for youth and teens. The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Monday, July 24, in the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center.
Two guest speakers will attend the event to share information on youth and teen technology use. Kevin Honeycutt, Making IT Happen Award winner and educational technology leader, will present information for parents on raising “wired” learners.
Honeycutt, a former teacher himself, has hosted a creative learning site since 2007 called ArtSnacks. Honeycutt’s site shares over 150 ten-minute drawing videos that support standards curriculum. Kevin has developed online safety, anti-bullying and cyber-bullying curriculum which he shares with parents, teachers and students around the country. He certifies instructors in this curriculum and supports trainers as they go out and do this important work. His recent book Don’t Stay Under the Couch Starbuck and The Bully is the centerpiece of his pre-K through sixth grade curriculum. He continues to work with schools to develop innovative, engaging curriculum to better prepare learners for the world they will face when they graduate.
An additional guest speaker Cathie Bledsoe, Indiana State Police Internet Crime Against Children Task Force youth educator, will take on the topic of internet and digital safety for youth and teen tech users. Bledsoe provides presentations to Indiana schools, churches and youth organizations targeted at providing age appropriate, timely information relevant to youth 8-18.
The event is free to the community and parents with students of all ages are encouraged and welcomed to attend. Snacks will be provided during the event. In addition, parents will be able to ask questions and receive information on the WCS iPad insurance plan. Sign-ups for insurance will not be available during the event. Sign-ups for insurance will continue to be available online here.
In addition to enjoying a night of free learning, guests will also be entered into the chance to win an Amazon Echo.
This event was made possible through the Summer of E-Learning grant award by the Indiana Department of Education.
